May 19 Day 3 Chamberlin to Devils Tower

It was quite a night in the RV.  A major storm moved thru about 2 am and with high wind and rain, the RV was really rocking and rolling.  For awhile I really wondered what the wind rating for the parked RV was and whether we would be staying right where we were until it passed.  Everything settled down around 5:30 am. The RV park is nice, not an Oasis, but well kept and clean.  We got up to a beautiful morning.  We topped off the water in the RV, but didn't need to dump the tanks.  I now understand the advantage of having electicity available.  It allows us to use the microwave and make coffee without running the generator.  We have a long day ahead with four sight seeing stops.  We left around 9am, a little delayed because I was working on the blog and putting the day one post up. I'll catch up and get the web address out when we get wifi again.  First stop is the Bad Lands National Park.  it is an interesting place with water erosion forming desolate gullies and canyons over 75 million years ago.  Our next strop was Wall Drug for lunch.  Wall Drug is a must stop tourist trap, which is advertised for 300 miles in both directions on I90.  After lunch we were off to Mount Rushmore.  At each of our stops we see Great Alaskan Holidays RVs.  We are moving along with everyone else with everyone taking a different route.  We gassed up in Rapid City, the attendant said I was a real good customer and had filled up the tank three times in the past two days.  I guess having RVs with the same markings can be confusing.  Finally, we moved on to Devils Tower National Monument in Wyoming.  This is beautiful country, it will be good to see it in the morning.  Got into the Monument's camp ground around 7:15 pm.  It is a dry camp, but does have restroom facilities and is real quiet and peaceful.  It's nice to be out in the country. Animal sightings today include 2 mountain goats.   For the day we put on another 376 miles.  The only casualty during the day was a bird that misjudged our height while Diana was driving.  Day two in the RV is done and still no major problems.  I am learning to know what it is like to herd cats.

  2. Glad to see you are successfully on your way. Also, happy to see that Wall Drug is still there! Good thing you aren't still waiting for bus #21. The 50th college reunion last weekend was a lot of fun - reconnecting with old and meeting new. I still don't know why anyone would voluntarily live in New Jersey. Traffic, traffic, and more traffic. It's nice to be back in NH.
